Near Calais, an 18-year-old Sudanese dies after trying to get into a truck
An 18-year-old Sudanese died on Saturday morning in Marck, near Calais. He “tried to get on a truck”, “fell” and “was run over by this truck”, confirmed the Boulogne-sur-Mer prosecutor’s office.

According to the prosecution, the emergency services intervened at 8 a.m. at the site of the accident, “in the Transmarck zone [une zone d’activités où de nombreux camions stationnent à destination de l’Angleterre, ndlr], at the exit of a service station reserved for heavy goods vehicles”.
An investigation to “identify the driver”
Rescuers performed cardiac massage to resuscitate the Sudanese exile, reports the local daily Nord Littoral. According to the prosecution, he died at 8:45 a.m. The young man had just celebrated his 18th birthday, indicates La Voix du Nord.
An investigation is underway “in particular to identify the driver of the truck and find his registration”, according to the Calais police station, quoted by AFP. The police plan to use surveillance videos placed near the scene of the accident. Indeed, the driver “who may not have noticed the fall of the migrant, did not stop”, according to this same source.
Since the beginning of the year, this is the second time that a migrant has died trying to reach England. On Friday, a man in his twenties lost his life after trying to cross the English Channel with 32 other people. The latter had been rescued off Berck, in Pas-de-Calais.
