In Central Bohemia, darts thrive, the strongest player base is Prague

Sugar Mizzy January 17, 2022

Prague can boast of the greatest interest in darts in Central Bohemia. Otherwise, you would find teams all over the region. “Prague is, of course, the strongest, it makes the foundation. Mělník, Kolín, Kladno, Beroun, these are all also areas where play is good. It’s about the same throughout the region. Maybe it’s a bit weaker from Benešov for them, “explains Šulc, who enjoys a growing interest in darts.

It is the popularization of darts that is the main goal of the association. “We have been working on this for a long time and the interest has been growing enormously in recent years. Last year we started doing an event with Gambrinus to support amateurs, which helped a lot. Thanks to this, some people who played in their pub but were afraid to go to a competition are no longer afraid. In a short time, they have grown into relatively decent players, “says Šulc.

In Spartak in Příbram, coaches choose the best player. But it’s not just about goals

According to him, Central Bohemia has a great advantage in this respect. A lot of people move here for work, so the dart base is growing naturally. “It simply came to our notice then. We have 2,500 registered players and about 2,000 other non-paying members. Some tournaments can be played without registration, which is only necessary from a certain level, “he explains.

At the same time, the dart community has not had an easy time in recent years. The coronavirus pandemic has stopped almost all competitions. “We have 600 participants in some tournaments, which was unthinkable for this situation,” says Šulc.

But the competitions gradually started again. In the autumn, for example, the championship of the Republic of Individuals took place, at which they had to adhere to strict measures against the covid. “Part was not high, but not bad at the time. But we are well below what we are used to. As for the league competition, we were closed. Now we are recording the 2020/2021 season and we are somewhere in the middle after two years. That’s terrible, “the union secretary shakes his head.

The postponed tournaments and competitions also monitored the association financially. “In addition, the state has now changed the conditions for the distribution of funds from the National Sports Agency, so it looks like we will not get anything again after years. But we’ve persevered so far, so I think I’ll persevere. A group of enthusiasts who do their best for it is moving around, “Šulc concludes optimistically.
