HSV: Cup game in Cologne becomes a lightning trip
This week they’ve been cheering them on, two top games are waiting for the HSV pros. On Tuesday (6.30 p.m./live ticker at mopo.de) they will play in the round of 16 of the cup at 1.FC Köln, on Friday (6.30 p.m./live ticker at mopo.de) leaders St. Pauli will come to the city derby in the Volkspark. In order to save energy in between, HSV resorts to unusual methods.
Haste is required. Two cracking games within 72 hours, quite a tiring affair. HSV’s desired plan before the performance in Cologne looks accordingly: win early, fly fast – and then wait for St. Pauli.

The cup trip to Cologne turns into a lightning trip. The pros will only fly to the cathedral city on tomorrow’s match day and will only be able to move into day beds there for a short time. Immediately after the party, the professionals will rush back to the airport so that they can spend the night in their beds at home. That’s how it was on Friday, after the game in Dresden. This time, however, the number is a lot trickier, because an extension in Cologne would whirl up the HSV plans.
Extension in Cologne brings HSV travel problems
The problem: Only if the party is decided after 90 minutes (and thus around 8.20 p.m.) will the charter plane waiting in Cologne be able to bring the HSV professionals to Hamburg until 11 p.m. After that, nothing works in Fuhlsbüttel because of the ban on night flights. Then the entourage would have to land in Hanover and from there take buses through the night to Hamburg.

Quite an effort. But an overnight stay in Cologne is out of the question. Because the time until the city derby is very tight anyway.
Cologne striker Modeste warns HSV
“We want to do it as quickly as possible, but of course it can take a little longer,” says HSV coach Tim Walter with a wink, looking ahead to Tuesday’s cup. But beware, the FC also has some plans. “We have one wish,” revealed Cologne striker Anthony Modeste at Sport1: “We want to go to the final in Berlin.”
