67 percent fewer passengers: Geneva Airport still under Corona
Even if slightly more people flew via Geneva Airport last year, the numbers remain far below the pre-crisis level.
Flight operations in Geneva were also severely restricted at times in 2021.
In 2021, a total of around 5.9 million passengers flew through Geneva Airport. This after a significant recovery in the second half of the year, as stated in a statement on Monday. Although there is a slight increase of 5.8 percent compared to the first year of the corona virus, 2020, the decrease compared to the pre-crisis level is still 67 percent. In 2019, Geneva Airport handled 17.9 million passengers.
The freight business recovered more significantly last year, as the press release goes on to say. Around 58,000 tons were handled, which corresponds to an increase of 14.7 percent compared to 2020. The decline in 2019 is still almost 28 percent.
Geneva Airport will publish its annual report at the end of March. He will announce “a high financial loss”, which will be lower than the loss in 2020. (agl)
