He said that on a private broadcaster talk show. He is currently working on something new and is speaking to a large number of very exciting young colleagues, followed by the 41-year-old. It was Reichelt’s first TV appearance after the media group Axel Springer in Berlin relieved him of his duties in October. Reichelt referred to an alleged “niche in the market”, according to which there would be a lack of journalism that looks for the facts and says what is and not what the government would like to have told you. He hopes that he can help close this “gap in the market” soon.
The spokesman for the German Association of Journalists, Paul Eschenhagen, criticized the statements. Reichelt was unable to provide a more precise answer as to what he meant by his idea. Somebody should tell him that this “niche in the market” is already well filled “with the modern and independent journalism of the quality media that appears daily.” It is already clear that he did not mean this, but what then?, he explained.
Reichelt confirms criticism of Springer
Reichelt also revised his displeasure with his preferred employer, Springer. Already in December he had written in the weekly newspaper “The time“criticized the way he was treated.
The broadcaster Servus TV has been accused in the past of repeatedly right-wing populists and Right-wing extremists have their say to let and To offer corona deniers a podium. Behind “Servus TV” is the energy drink manufacturer Red Bull and the entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz.
Reichelt was editor-in-chief for several years. Months before the departure there had been an internal procedure against the journalist and more recently further press research. According to Springer, the core of the internal investigation in spring 2021 was the allegations of abuse of power in connection with consensual relationships with employees and drug use in the workplace. The group came to the conclusion that Reichelt should be given a second chance.
