contaminations on the rise, the average of hospitalizations remains stable but could increase
In all, 2,174 patients treated for the coronavirus were hospitalized on Sunday, against 2,091 the day before. The number of patients in care is intensifying remains stable, at 391, communicated the spokesperson for the Minister of Health, on the basis of figures from Sciensano on Monday.
The weekly average number of hospitalizations also remains stable compared to the previous day, with 200 hospitalizations per day.
Nevertheless, an increase in hospitalizations seems to be beginning. While between January 7 and 13, the number of hospitalizations remained on average below 200 each day, this figure has exceeded this average for three days. On Friday, 234 hospitalizations were recorded. On Saturday, 266 new patients were admitted to hospital and on Sunday, 163 new Covid-19 patients were hospitalized. And these figures could increase because they are not yet consolidated.
The seven-day average of the number of infections, on the other hand, continues to increase, although less rapidly. On January 13, the date of the most recent consolidated figures, this reached 25,809 daily contaminations, an increase of 38%. On that day, 30,013 infections were registered in particular.
Between January 7 and January 13, there were a total of 612,314 tests carried out, of which around 31% were found to be positive.
