30-fold increase in the number of second-time infections after omikron’s entry into Norway
The case is being updated.
In the first week of 2022, 30 times more people were reinfected than in the week before the omicron variant was first discovered in Norway. In week 47, 59 people were registered infected for the second time. Week 48, when omikron arrived in Norway, the number was 106. Since then, the number of cases has exploded, writes Aftenposten, which refers to FHI’s weekly report for week one.
A total of 3,756 people have been doubly infected during the pandemic. 38 percent of the cases have occurred within five weeks up to and including one week.
Increasing infection in society leads to an increase in the amount that is re-infected, which also indicates that the omicron variant circumvents immunity.
While only 0.3 per cent of those infected by the delta variants had been infected before, the proportion is 3.8 per cent for omicron-infected people.
