UCS can’t get out of the fog

Sugar Mizzy January 16, 2022

Fabrice Landreau had predicted a very nice shot in the event of victory against Valence / Romans. It took a small point this Sunday at the Parc des Sports even if the Checkers led the meeting from start to finish and amply their victory.

A small point, however, is that he managed to get the UCS after additional time thanks to a 100-meter test concluded by Jeremiah Lynch which allows him to snatch the defensive bonus.

Rewarding the courage and self-sacrifice of the Unionists who, like eight days ago in Suresnes, showed that they had little to reproach themselves with in terms of their state of mind.

But faced with Drômois sure of their strength and who badly needed to re-engage the forward march after four consecutive losses, they once again lacked this small precision which has made the salt of the big teams.

The Union temporarily gives way to the red lantern in Dijon. It is certainly not a panacea but it is already better than nothing.

Eight points flown at the foot, slag on very important throws in touch and an inability to disrupt the grouped-penetrating Checkers: this is what the UCS lacked to finally bring down a big chicken at home.

The editorial staff advises you

It was under a thick fog to cut with a knife that this meeting took place. Very delicate playing conditions which did not allow any great flights. At least in the first period.

A crazy end to the game

Also the Drôme applied from the kick-off the appropriate recipe by literally asphyxiating the Unionists with balls carried.

Barely 95 seconds of play and the indestructible Jody Jenneker collapsed in the in-goal to launch his team perfectly (0-5, 2and). Unable to get their heads out of the clouds, the UCS relied on Villanove to open their counter.

But Lavetanakoroi once again received a yellow card (his fifth of the season!) and the sanction was immediate when Zouhair flattened in force (3-12, 18and). There was then only one team on the ground and we did not distribute, at that time, not much of the outcome of the meeting.

Except that the indiscipline suddenly caught up with the Drôme, allowing Villanove to save the furniture with a single failure at the foot. So much so that the Union was only three points behind at the break (9-12, 40and). A lesser evil!

Only the VRDR pressed the accelerator once again on a penal touch which carried away everything in its path (9-19, 50and) and played his game until ten minutes from the final whistle. He then had the offensive bonus in his pocket.

The beginning of a totally crazy period. The Drômois Dier collected a yellow (70), imitated by his captain Armari five minutes later. At 15 against 13, the Unionists were playing their all out and Duhourquet found L alarm inside to return to the defensive bonus (14-19, 76).

A small but precious point that we thought was definitely gone when Price managed a defeat in stride (14-22, 80and).

It was without counting on the pride of the unionists who revived from their in-goal line with a hospital on fire, as often. A hundred meters longer, Lynch collapsed in the promised land to snatch this point which allows the Union to temporarily give way to the red lantern in Dijon, which could not face the SA XV.

It’s certainly not a panacea, but it’s still better than nothing.

Landreau: “We have nothing to be ashamed of”

Fabrice Landreau (UCS manager). “We saw an incredible commitment from our team but we couldn’t control the game. We had too many lost balls and missed touches to hope to win. They were scored easily on their highlights and on an always chased after score. We score a test of 100 meters to rage which consoles us a little but it will take more to maintain.
Now, we stayed together until the end and we managed to outsmart them at the end. We keep our spirits up even if the situation is less and less comfortable. But there are still matches left and this team has heart so we will support them. We don’t have to be ashamed of this defeat because the important thing is to bounce back and get going again. »
Johann Authier (manager of the VRDR). “We knew it would be complicated even though we had a controlled game for the first 60 minutes. Afterwards, we had two or three grains of sand in the machine, imprecise footwork, a lack of discipline. In general, we were not disciplined in this match. I’m still happy with the spirit, the sense of sacrifice, because even at 13, we don’t give up. We must not forget that the SA XV almost lost here, that all the big ones almost lost. UCS is a quality team with a very dangerous field, a good kicking game. She never gives up. »
