Prague – The Czech Lion will announce the nominations for the 29th annual film awards of the Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA) in Prague today. Academics’ voting began last December. The ceremony of announcing the results should take place on March 5 in Dvořák’s Hall of the Prague Rudolfinum.

From a total of 33 documentaries this year, the commission, composed of members of the academy, selected 16 films, which academics will vote on in the first round. Academics also vote on 16 television works. The statue of the Czech Lion can also be taken away from some of the seven animated and 13 short films. The CFTA Presidium also annually recognizes the extraordinary contribution of Czech cinematography and can also award an award for an extraordinary moment in audiovisual. The annual Czech Lion Awards will be presented by the academy in 21 categories this year.
Last March, the CFTA announced the film The Charlatan by director Agnieszka Hollandová as the best feature film of 2020. The film about a folk healer turned five of the 14 nominations. Bohdan Sláma’s film Landscape in the Shadow won the most awards, which was nominated for 15. Its creators won six awards, including the one for the screenplay and the best female performance. Director and screenwriter Hynek Bočan received the award for extraordinary contribution to Czech cinematography.
