The crew of the Dakar truck returning to Lithuania is happy: the pancake is the first, but it doesn’t
At the airport, compatriots were greeted not only by fans, but also by longing families, and V. Paškevičius is glad that the pancake was the first, but it did not disappoint.
“Maybe we had a challenge in the last days, but the team got along with them, maybe we lost one position or another, but we will try to reach the finish and we succeeded,” said the racer.
According to him, the biggest challenge was on the penultimate day of Dakar, when the turbine of the Tatra Jamal truck called Mamba broke down and many dunes were waiting in front of him.
“The mechanics said that the probability that we would reach the finish line was maybe 50 percent, because the turbine lubrication system was on the verge and could damage the entire gate. But we succeeded, “said the athlete, who admitted that the first job when he returned home would be to hug the family he missed.
V. Paškevičius has been competing in the Lithuanian motorsport for many years, he is a sworn off-road enthusiast, but for a long time he matured the idea to start in the truck rally in Dakar. That the dream could come true, he learned in October 2021, and within two weeks of assembling the team, in agreement with co-driver Slavomir Volkov and mechanic Tomas Gužauskas, he started in the toughest race of the world in 2022.
