Neighborhood critical of squatters in Amsterdam South: “Doesn’t help against the housing shortage”
Residents of the Amsterdam Vondelparkbuurt think it is not right that the building on the Waldeck Pyrmontlaan was squatted this weekend. According to them, the owner could not yet start renovating and the house is therefore empty.
Several residents say that he wants to make a swimming pool. “We have trouble with that,” says a neighbor who lives a few doors awayYou will probably soon be the victims of subsidence and the like. This cannot be done without another building having the last of them.”
Although there is criticism, many neighbors do not think it should be squatted. “I don’t think it helps much against the housing shortage. So I hope they leave the building intact for the owner,” says another resident. According to her, the owner had long started to renovate. “At the moment he has to go through the procedures first” meet the neighbors wait.”
She feels bad for the Mobile Unit, who came to vacate the premises this evening. “Because I think they have been running from demonstration to demonstration all day. So I really hope those men can go home.”
No water and electricity
Earlier today, neighbors also said that there was no water and no electricity in the building. “I don’t know how they want to live there.”
The squatters did not want to respond in front of the camera this morning and did not want anyone inside. The owner also walked down the street during the eviction, but he also declined to comment on camera.
