Nine compulsory schools in five Salzburg municipalities will soon be assigned assistants who will support them with administrative work. They should relieve the school administration. It is said that the pressure to work continued to increase during the CoV pandemic.
The coronavirus pandemic has required a lot of additional administrative work for Salzburg’s compulsory school principals: For example, countless letters to parents had to be written, the switch between distance and face-to-face classes, class closures due to CoV cases, and the distribution of masks and disinfectants had to be organized.
Administrative assistants work “mobile”
Even before that, the bureaucratic effort at many schools was no longer manageable with one secretary. That is why administrative assistants were introduced. You help several schools at the same time. There are currently 68 administrative assistants working at 201 compulsory schools in the state.
Compulsory schools not yet 100 percent supplied
This means that 70 percent of all locations are supplied, says Education Minister Daniela Gutschi (ÖVP). Five more administrative assistants will soon be added: “They will work at the Annaberg-Lungötz (Tennengau), Neukirchen am Großvenediger (Pinzgau), Krimml (Pinzgau), Wald im Pinzgau and Anif (Flachgau) schools, where the call for applications is currently underway,” says Goody.
Municipalities and state pay, federal government refuses
In addition, there has been a dispute between the federal government and the municipalities for centuries as to who is responsible for financing the administrative assistants. Currently, the municipalities and the state of Salzburg each share half of the costs. The state provides one million euros annually for this purpose.
