ICE Hockey League: Graz wrestles leaders Salzburg down – winter sports – ice hockey
In the only Sunday game of the 39th round of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League, the Graz99ers beat EC Red Bull Salzburg 3-2 after overtime after a real show of strength, thus ending the nine games and ongoing run of success of the “Bulls “.
The leader of the table from the city of Mozart played his over form early in the game, after 61 seconds the disc wriggled in the net. Baltram (2nd) jubilantly turns away after a precise shot from the left face-off circle. The “Bulls” have the game in their hands and follow up in the form of Harnisch (6th). The striker scores in the breakaway.
The Styrian guests then find their way into the game, but Hjalmarsson (8th) cannot overcome Salzburg keeper Lamoureux. The home side, on the other hand, are looking for their third goal, but lack the necessary precision in the end. Graz goalkeeper Engstrand can also distinguish himself again and again.
A balanced game develops over time, two Salzburg penalties within a few seconds bring the 99ers back. Kainz served Boivin (30./PP2) with a double advantage, the defender didn’t let the chance go – 1:2. Almost two minutes later, Blood (32′) uses the inside bar to put the puck in the goal – equaliser!
However, the league leaders showed a strong reaction in the final section, celebrating the supposed 3:2 in the 51st minute. After studying the video, however, the referees decide on “No Goal”. Graz, on the other hand, hardly finds its way out of its own defense, but keeps the shop closed and forces the third overtime in the fourth duel of the season.
There Boivin became the match winner with 54.1 seconds before the end of extra time, sinking the disc into the goal with a save.
EC Red Bull Salzburg lost for the first time since December 3, but remains in first place with a large gap to second-placed HC Bozen. The Graz99ers, on the other hand, celebrate their second win in the series and have to make do with eighth place.
