Everything you need to know about SkyShowtime in the Netherlands

Sugar Mizzy January 16, 2022

What is SkyShowtime?

SkyShowtime is perhaps the biggest underdog of the three streaming services coming to the Netherlands in 2022. The streaming service does not focus on offering live sports such as Viaplay and is not as well known as Warner Media service HBO Max. SkyShowtime is an electronic streaming service from ViacomCBS and Comcast, two of the largest media companies in the United States.

SkyShowtime in the Netherlands is therefore a mixture of American streaming services Peacock and Paramount+. The two great players join forces and that can be a masterful move. Two separate streaming services probably offer too little content to be of interest to the Dutch public, but joining forces can turn out well.

What can you watch on SkyShowtime?

Although it is not yet clear exactly what will be shown on SkyShowtime, it is already possible to make a good guess as to what the streaming service will offer. For example, we know what is on the American streaming services Peacock and Paramount+. On the basis of this, it is reasonably possible to estimate what is planned for SkyShowtime.

For example, we expect that all Star Trek series will move to SkyShowtime. Criminal Minds, the various CSI and NCIS series and Paramount+ Originals also have a good chance of appearing on SkyShowtime, although the latter is still subject to demand from that label. In any case, it also seems logical that the new iCarly series, The Good Fight, The Twilight Zone and the upcoming Halo series are coming to SkyShowtime.

We expect from Peacock that many classic series such as The Office, 30 Rock, Battlestar Galactica and Cheers will come over. It’s also not surprising when Frasier, Everyone Loves Raymond and Will & Grace make the switch to SkyShowtime. In terms of new releases, the Bel-Air reboot is expected to come to SkyShowtime, as is the TV series about crass-mouthed teddy bear Ted (which already has two movies) planned.

When will SkyShowtime appear in the Netherlands?

A release date for SkyShowtime in the Netherlands has not yet been announced. This has not yet been officially announced. However, the streaming service seems to be coming a bit earlier in the year. It is indicated that the streaming service is planned for 2022, late 2022 is indicated for another region.

How much does SkyShowtime cost in the Netherlands?

Unfortunately, it has not yet been paid how much SkyShowtime will cost in the Netherlands. If there is more clarity about this, we will let you know. We do know how much Peacock and Paramount+ cost in the United States. Based on that, we could make an estimate.

Peacock Premium costs $4.99 per month, but also has a free option. The free version only has ads and has a limited offer. With Peacock Premium you then have all the content, but there are no ads yet. You will then no longer have ads for Peacock Premium Plus, but that will cost $9.99 per month.

For Paramount+ the prices are slightly different, because there you can take the basic plan for $4.99. There is also a Premium subscription that costs $9.99, which includes all content and no more ads. You do get those commercials with the Essential plan.

If we have to translate those costs to the Netherlands, the options seem great. The price for SkyShowtime therefore seems to vary between 10 and 20 euros. For now nothing is fixed, so of course we have to wait until we hear the real prices.
