In recent years, several similar robberies in jewelry and watch shops have occurred in Prague and other cities in the Czech Republic. It was in Prague’s Široká Street, where Saturday’s robbery took place, that in 2017, a man who spoke bad English with an accent under the threat of firearms robbed jewelry worth millions of crowns from a goldsmith’s shop. Shortly before Christmas 2012, a group of three militants from Serbia raided a store on the same street, from which they stole watches and jewelry worth almost 17 million.
In 2019, an organized group of robbers originally from Lithuania carried out a raid on a goldsmith’s shop in Chomutov, Ústí nad Labem and Teplice, where they robbed more than ten million goods. In the same year, another man robbed jewelry and watches for more than 14 million crowns from a goldsmith’s in Karlovy Vary.
