The result of an unprecedented partnership with the Toulouse-Lautrec museum in Albi, the exhibition “Toulouse-Lautrec, the birth of an artist” is presented free of charge at the Carmel chapel.
Final hours to discover the exhibition “Toulouse-Lautrec, the birth of an artist”, at the Carmel chapel, in Libourne. Extended for a week in the face of the “great success” it has met with – more than 10,000 visitors since October – the exhibition presented by the Museum of Fine Arts ends on Sunday 16 January. The opportunity or never to discover 66 works by the post-impressionist painter (1864-1901). Including 55 numbers from the Toulouse-Lautrec museum in Albi, which agreed to their exceptional loan. “A great chance”, measures Caroline Fillon, the director of Fine Arts in Libourne.
From the childhood drawings of the young Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec to his artistic emancipation illustrated by his work on the circus, passing through his meticulous apprenticeship under the guidance of the Libournais painter René Princeteau (1843-1914) around their common passion for the horse, the works presented in the chapel of Carmel “evoke an intimate Lautrec, far from the character he embodied by becoming ”the soul of Montmartre””, invite the organizers.
The drawings and paintings loaned by the Albi museum will be returned next week.
45, Robert-Boulin alleys, in Libourne. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Free.
