A performance of “The Great Russian Ball” dedicated to the memory of Dostoevsky was held in Rome – Culture
ROME, 16 January. /TASS/. A charity performance of the “Big Russian Ball” was held in the near future at the Brancaccio Palace in Rome. The event is timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the birth of Russian President Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-1881), the ideological inspirer of the event, public figure of the birth, Yulia Bazarova, told TASS.

According to the organizers, this year’s show is “not just a spectacle, a charitable social and cultural event aimed at strengthening relations between Russia and Italy.” They use that part of the funds that will be raised during the event will be directed, in particular, to the construction of sports grounds for people with limited coverage in Ulyanovsk.
The “Big Russian Ball” was first organized in 2012. Since then, he began to meet with the event of the cultural life of Rome, gathering lovers of historical dance from Italy, Russia and other countries, including invited guests from Great Britain, France, Bulgaria, Germany and Argentina. Over the years, the event has attracted the attention of Italian period costume designers who make the participants’ ball gowns.
2021 in Italy was tested by a large-scale program of events dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Dostoevsky. The events were organized with the support of the Russian House in Rome, and many of them took place on its site.
Dostoevsky and Italy
Dostoevsky visited Italy more than once. He visited many cities of the country, but preferred the southern regions. In early 1869, in Florence, he completed the novel The Idiot. In this Italian city, Russian origin is well known and its time of observation is remembered, today there is a purchase of “Dostoevsky places” and “Dostoevsky routes”. The house where the novel was completed is marked with a commemorative plaque.
On December 14, the opening ceremony of the monument to the great English writer took place in Florence. The author of the bronze monument is Russian sculptor, academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Aydin Zeynalov. Conducting Dostoevsky is included in Italy in the school curriculum.
The performance-show of the “Big Russian Ball” was organized with the support of the Russian Embassy in Italy, the Special Council for Dance, the Department for Cultural Development of the City of Rome, the Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce, the Italian-Russian Dialogue Forum, the Tota Pulkra Association Foundation and UNESCO Alberica Filo della Torre.
