Trolleybuses are returning, provided by the dilapidated house from 1952
It is still necessary to complete the reconstruction of the house, which will hide the technology powered by the fourteen-kilometer-long track.
The robber with a pistol in his pocket took hundreds of thousands out of the bank. Does anyone know where to look for him?
“The house was built in 1952 as the main substation for the trolleybus line leading to Čakovice. It was a relatively rare matter, because at that time the technology was very scarce, “explains Jan Šurovský, technical director of the transport company, and recalls the strategic importance due to the local aircraft factories Letov and Avia.
Trolleybuses then ran from the U Kříže Prosecká Street stops through Krocínka to the railway station in Čakovice, the last one passing there in 1965.
“When they stopped driving, the substation was left idle. The equipment was gradually taken to other exchange offices in Prague or used for spare parts. Then there was the various battery depot and everything, or a flashlight maintenance workshop. We will give it back the original meaning, “says Šurovský.
The house is now under construction. I am going to repair the facades, replace the windows and insulation and rebuild the interior.
“The partitions will be demolished and switchboards will be placed there, in the second part there will be two traction transformers changing the voltage. The railway will run underground on Tupolevova Street, where it branches towards Letňany and Čakovice. Each cable bounces off its branch at the supply point and to the trolley power supply, ”describes Libor Slanina, who is in charge of power management at the transport company. According to him, the background of the track is dimensioned in such a way as to manage the possible extension of the track towards the old Letňany.
Prague as a starting block: most brands have chosen the metropolis to enter the market
Tram routes also have their exchanger stations, of which there are a total of 42 in Prague and they are interconnected. In the event of a power failure or technical failure, the line will quickly switch to another substation so that the trams can continue to run.
However, trolleybus stations are not connected. “It is not necessary, because it is backed up by car batteries, in the event of a failure, the driver will have to manage the car’s energy better or charge longer,” Šurovský.
Although the entire route could be powered from this building, other technical buildings are needed. One of them, with eighteen chargers, will be in the garages of the transport company in Klíčov, the other stands in the lower part of Prosecká Street and supplies the trolleybuses that the transport company has been testing in the hilly section for years. And at the final in Vojáčkova Street in Čakovice, a charging container will be built.
The project called Electrification of Bus Line No. 140 Palmovka – Miškovice is in charge of the association of companies Elektrizace Praha and OHLA ŽS. Bus line No. 140 will become trolleybus line No. 58 upon completion. The investment of 283.7 million crowns is largely financed from European funds.
