ÇWith funding under the name “Management of Electric Vehicles for the Neutrality of Europe” (EVEU), the project released today is defined by INESC-ID (Institute of Systems and Computer Engineering – Research and Development, in Lisbon) and is under the Horizon, the European Union’s Research and Innovation Framework Program for 2021-2027.
EV4 EU will propose and implement strategies for the widespread use of electric vehicles, from Greece and also from Portugal to Slovenia and Portugal, with a total of 16 partners. The proposed strategies will be tested at a site in each of these countries.
The project is not focused on electric vehicles in terms of their integration with the electricity grids and cities, but explained to Lusa Hugo Morais, senior researcher at the INESC-ID Department, professor at the Electrotechnical and Informatics Engineering department at the Instituto Técnico and Coordinator of the Institute Higher .
“We are not focused on vehicles being cheaper or less, until we believe that with a technological evolution prices will go,” said the official, adding that the charging location of an electric car, or the fact that charging is relatively slow, are problems. that need to be resolved and for which, among others, the project will seek to provide answers.
According to Hugo Morais, the project starts in May and at the end of the year, initially, as part of the V2X (VehicleEverything) user-centered management strategies.
The smart technology connects the vehicle with which we developed it (which allows transit or which it can function), which creates a smart car network and a smart car network as well. It improves safety and reduces traffic flow and energy consumption.
Over time, according to the same official, the project will propose new types of chargers, new applications for charging operators, or tools for network operators.
“In 2050, 80% of infrastructure will be electric, what we want is to create conditions for this to be a natural transition, and that they are not developed as to prevent it”, stressed Hugo Morais.
In a statement about the project, INESC-ID says that EV4EU aims to promote more information on technical aspects and value of V2X vehicles and technology, facilitate the integration of V2X with energy management systems in homes/buildings and energy communities. , or create technical conditions for faster development of the V2X infrastructure.
It also wants to create services and business models that encourage electric vehicles, or propose a legislative framework that encourages the use of new transport solutions, including electric vehicles.
