Alexander Griboyedov (January 15, 1795 – February 11, 1829) was a Russian diplomat, playwright and poet. Alexander Sergeevich Griboyedov was born on (4) January 15, 1795 in Moscow. He received a versatile home education, played musical instruments (piano, flute), with children’s foreign languages: German, English, French, Italian. “In 1806, at the age of 11, he became a student at Moscow University, then studied at the Faculty of Philosophy, at the Faculty of Law. In 1810 he received a diploma of a candidate in law. The outbreak of the Patriotic War of 1812 prevented him from continuing his education, and he volunteered for the army. After the loss, he remains retired, hears translations, picks up articles.
In 1817, Griboyedov went to St. Petersburg to serve in the Collegium of Foreign Affairs. A.S. already lives here. Pushkin and many future Decembrists. Griboedov meets and becomes close to them. Soon Griboyedov acted as a second in a duel that ended in the death of one of the participants, and he had to leave Petersburg.
In 1818-1820, Griboyedov was in Persia, and since 1821 he was a minister in the Caucasus, in Tiflis (Tbilisi), as a registry secretary. Again, surrounded by Griboyedov, there are many expectations of the Decembrists.
In Tiflis, he begins to work on the comedy Woe from Wit, then takes a vacation to complete the work and travels to Russia. By 1824 the comedy was complete. Secular salons took “Woe from Wit” enthusiastically, criticism, on the contrary, with hostility. The full text was published abroad only in 1858, thanks to the work of A.I. Herzen. In Russia, the complete edition appeared only after the reform in 1862.
But “Woe from Wit” is not Griboyedov’s only work. He wrote poetry, articles, plays and was the author of only about 30 literary and journalistic arguments.
In the case of 1826, he committed a crime in the case of the Decembrists, but due to the location of the evidence, he was found not guilty and returned to detecting activity again.
In 1827 he was assigned to deal with Turkey and Persia. And after the end of the Russian-Persian war of 1826-1828, Griboyedov took an active part in the development and conclusion of the Turkmenchay world treaty, which was beneficial for Russia. And after its signing, in order to ensure the fulfillment of the terms of the agreement, at the beginning of 1828 he was appointed the ambassador of Russia (“full minister”) in Persia. In Tehran, Griboyedov’s main task was to fulfill the shah of the implementation of the articles of the settlement agreement and, in particular, to pay indemnities following the results of the Russian-Persian war.
On the way to his destination, Alexander Sergeevich spent several months in Tiflis (now Tbilisi), where he married Princess Nina Chavchavadze, the daughter of his friend, the Georgian poet and public figure A. Chavchavadze, whom he forgot from childhood, and with whom he happened to live all few weeks. After the wedding, the newlyweds went to Persia, but not wanting to put the pregnant woman in danger in Tehran, Griboedov left her for a while in Tabriz, his residence of the full representative of the Russian Empire in Persia, and went to the capital alone.
(January 30) On February 11, 1829, the Russian embassy in Tehran was attacked. Everyone who was in the embassy was killed, including Alexander Sergeevich Griboedov. The body of the poet was transported to Tiflis and buried on the mountain of St. David.
On the grave of her husband, Nina Chavchavadze-Griboedova left an inscription: “Your mind and deeds are immortal in the memory of Russians, but why did my love survive you?”, The article says.
