This year, we wanted to highlight this champion team of France 97 which was a clever mix of confirmed players and young talents trained at the Club. This is an initiative that is particularly appreciated by our fans and that we will continue to offer them in the future.
Vice President General Manager
For the 3rd consecutive season, AS Monaco and Copa have joined forces to revive a glorious page in the club’s history through the reissue of iconic jerseys, after two first fruitful collaborations which focused on the jerseys of the 1977-82 seasons. and 1987-88.
> Oleg Petrov, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director: โWe are very happy with this collaboration with Copa which has allowed us, for 3 seasons now, to bring back to life the most beautiful pages in the history of the Club. This year, we wanted to highlight this champion team of France 97 which was a clever mix of confirmed players and young talents trained at the Club. This is an initiative that is particularly appreciated by our fans and that we will continue to offer them in the future. “
The Monegasque reign
Already well established on the European scene under the leadership of Arsรจne Wenger, with a semi-final (1990 against Sampdoria Genoa) and a Cup final (1992 against Werder Bremen), as well as a semi-final Champions League on the clock (1994 against the great AC Milan), AS Monaco continues its ascent.
As soon as Jean Tigana took over the reins of the team in 1995, the Rocher club asserted itself a little more as a stronghold in the French championship by gleaning a sixth national title at the end of the 1996-1997 season. A year which also coincides with the celebrations in the Principality of the 700 years of reign of the Grimaldi family.
A European epic in the UEFA Cup
Under the orders of the former member of the “magic square” of the French team, European champion in 1984, one of the most beautiful teams in the history of the Club is emerging with big names such as Fabien Barthez, Ali Benarbia, Enzo Scifo, Sonny Anderson or even Victor Ikpeba and young talents trained at the Academy such as Emmanuel Petit, Thierry Henry or Sylvain Legwinski.
An exceptional season at all levels, as the Red and Whites are playing a new European semi-final, in the UEFA Cup this time, which will unfortunately be lost against Inter Milan. The confirmation despite everything that AS Monaco is becoming not only a benchmark in France, but also on the Old Continent.
That jersey was really amazing, didn’t you think? ??
