10 unmissable exhibitions in Brussels in 2022
From the Lebanese painter Huguette Caland in the Wiels to the visual explorations of Rinus van de Velde in Bozar. In the year 2022, a number of exhibitions that are certainly worth a visit to our capital. Not only painting, but also photography and design all have their place on the Brussels cultural agenda.
Penelope
In the form of two silent black-and-white films, photographer Dirk Braeckman and artist Voetvolk work together on a visual reinterpretation of Penelope, the wife of Odysseus. The performance lasts minutes and includes a solo by dancer Lisbeth Gruwez. As a reaction to the male lead roles in the Odyssey, she plays all the women in the background of the Greek epic.

Tête-à-tête – Huguette Caland
The exhibition pays tribute to Huguette Caland’s exuberant view of life and art. The result is a reflection on traditional representations of sexuality, the body and desire. It was during the liberation wave in the 1960s that the Lebanese painter, sculptor and fashion designer developed her own language.

Livestock Farming – Kasper Bosmans
The Belgian artist himself with his art in science, design and folklore. For this exhibition Kasper Bosmans explores the concept Cattle breeding or ‘livestock’, a term used for the management of agriculture, animal breeding, and plant breeding. The result is art that lies on the border between nature and culture.

Rinus Van De Velde
Artist Rinus Van De Velde used various techniques, from drawing to sculpture, to create a world of reality and fiction that invites the viewer to an imaginary journey. This visual exploration of semi-heroic discoveries and adventures that encompasses the idiosyncratic journeys and fictional encounters with great figures of art history.

Project Palace, a centenary

Calder, Richier, Schlegel, Székely by Agnès Varda
Galerie Nathalie Obadia is dedicating an exhibition to the filmmaker, photographer and visual artist Agnès Varda. The works on display are photographic and for the most part come from historical archives on display here for the first time. The exhibition is a nod to the multidisciplinary artist who was born in Ixelles in 1928.
