Yannick Haenel recounts the trial of the “Charlie Hebdo” attacks
LITERATURE – The Toulouse bookstore “Ombres Blanches” is organizing a meeting with Yannick Haenel on Thursday 13 January. The opportunity for the author to present his book “Notre solitude”, around his testimony of the trial of the Charlie Hebdo attacks.
“I indeed attended the trial of the attacks of January 2015, which was held from September to December 2020”, relates Yannick Haenel. From this experience was born his book “Our loneliness“, published last October. Invited by the” Ombres Blanches “bookstore, the author will come to present his work in Toulouse in the conference room located rue Mirepoix at 6 pm.
An experience “as intimate as it is painful”
Columnist for “Charlie Hebdo”, Yannick Haenel will return to his nights of writing, his commitment and his friendship with the members of the satirical newspaper.
During the trial, he reported to readers on the headline site every day, which is known for his advocacy for press freedom. “I thus felt the need to come back to this experience as intimate as it was painful”, explains the author in his summary.
The impact of Samuel Paty’s death
The attack in Charlie Hebdo premises and the trial that followed are not the only events to have marked Yannick Haenel. He testifies to this in “Notre solitude”.
“I am recounting the obsession with crimes, the impact of the attacks which took place during the trial, the death of Samuel Paty”, specifies the author. According to him, his story is “an inner adventure and a political act”.
