Basketball – Munich – Euroleague setback for Bayern’s basketball players – Bavaria
Munich (AP) – FC Bayern Munich suffered a setback in the basketball Euroleague in the fight for the playoffs. The Bundesliga club lost to AS Monaco on Thursday evening with 78:83 (35:40) and after the fourth defeat from the last five matches with a record of 8:11 wins in the table, they remain in eleventh place. The eight best clubs qualify for the coveted knockout round after 34 games.
An outstanding Corey Walden was not enough for the team of the Italian coach Andrea Trinchieri before the break. The 29-year-old American provides, among other things, with five successful distance throws with 17 points for a quick half of the Bayern points in the first 20 minutes. Nevertheless, the guests from the Principality were five points ahead at halftime.
Even after the break, the hosts ran after the deficit. The Monegasque around the former Alba Berlin coach Sasa Obradovic had the perfect answer to every good Bayern phase and went into the final section with an eight point lead (62: 54/30. Minute). After all, there was another man from Munich, Vladimir Lucic, who could score reliably.
The Serbian or top scorer Walden (26 points) could not turn the match. Monaco barely showed any weaknesses in the fourth quarter and won in the end thanks to Mike James, who scored 26 points, deservedly in Munich.
