ALL ANTWERP: “I have never lived in one place for a long time” (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a nice conversation. Want everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Nishil Nath (33).
“I come from India, from the city of Bangalore in the south of the country. I’ve been living in Antwerp for years now and if I actually think seven, I’ve never lived longer in one place than here. All my life I’ve been moving from place to place. Also in India itself, for my studies. I now have two masters, one in business a master of law. Which I make in London. I lived there for four years and also worked for a while. Later I found a job in Belgium and moved to rooms here. It is in my nature to be on the road.”
“Whether I will also leave this place at some point depends on my girlfriend. She is from here and also feels there are some new places to discover. I would like to live in Scotland someday. From France. I don’t really miss a permanent home. Antwerp feels like home to me. And India.”
“I have only just returned from India. Since yesterday. Normally I go there every year but last year I didn’t, so this time I went extra long. The plan was four weeks. But then I tested positive and there were six. I had two big weddings from my family. In India, this is always exuberantly celebrated. I think we partied for two weeks.”
“When I tested positive, my girlfriend did return on the scheduled date. They had to celebrate Christmas and New Year. The price I have to pay: that we get a second dog. She is still very small, not much older than two months.” (vw)
