Students want oral Matura for volunteers only
education
At the Matura there should be relief again today because of the CoV crisis. Unlike in the previous two years, the oral Matura should be binding again. The Salzburg AHS state school spokesman Stijn Maas demands that this part should be for voluntary examinees.
Maas has been referring to this requirement for a long time. During the written examinations, an important debate would also be very important, which has apparently been rejected by the authorities so far. The Ministry of Education did not take into account the specific proposal of the Federal Parents’ Representation, i.e. the criticism.
Measure with many dimensions?
Most recently, due to the CoV crisis, the learning material in the schools was taken with different intensities and at different speeds, says Helmut Schütz from Salzburg, Vice President of the Federal Parents’ Board. Therefore, an adjustment of the written Matura is urgently needed. When evaluating ten questions, for example, only the best seven should be used. So, according to Schütz, you don’t have to set up the central school-leaving exam again, and you would still accommodate the young people.
“Load very high after three lockdowns”
The students hoped for more accommodation, especially with the oral Matura, says Salzburg’s AHS state school spokesman Stijn Maas: “It is not true that everything would now be normal again – after a total of three lockdowns.”
There had been a lot of very stressful school items for schoolchildren in recent years that would justify the fact that oral Matura exams should be voluntary, according to the spokesman. It is at least positive that the number of subject areas for the oral school-leaving exam should be restricted again and the respective grade in the final class should be included again in the school-leaving certificate, according to Maas.
