The extreme right meets in Prague. Fialová or Maximová play in a German film
In the German-Czech drama Je suis Karl by director Christian Schwochow, which will start showing cinemas this Thursday, the extreme right is cynically abusing the migration crisis.
The film was mostly shot in Prague, it is provided by the State Cinematography Fund and one of the main roles was played by Anna Fialová. Elizaveta Maximová, Sara Sandeva or Veronika Bellová also perform.
Soundtrack passed Englishman Tom Hodge and Czech producer Tomáš Dvořák known as Floex. Before the coronavirus pandemic, the staff, with the assistance of the local company Negativ, filmed in the vicinity of the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Prague, at the main railway station, in the Old Town, in Vinohrady or Strahov.
The title refers to the motto Je suis Charlie, which became a symbol of solidarity and protests after the terrorist attack on the French magazine Charlie Hebdo in 2015.
In the dramatic story, the young girl Maxi’s unique death in a terrorist attack in Berlin, but the explosion deprives her of a home, her mother and two siblings. In difficult times, she introduces the protagonist of the charismatic Charles to a youth movement that wants to change Europe. In order to escape her trauma for a while, I go with Prague to Prague for the so-called summer academy, in fact a propaganda event of the new right.
The ideals of a return to European values and criticism of the government, which fails to commit violence or innocent victims, sound tempting in her situation. Too late, she realizes that she is being manipulated by her surroundings, and her tragic story serves to place the interests of supporters of the extreme right.
Je suis Karl premiered at the Berlinale last year and received several nominations for the German Film Awards. He inspired her case in Germany, where a neo-Nazi group carried out a series of robberies, bombings and murders, always so that the suspicion was directed at one of the immigrant communities.

Film director Christian Schwochow has won several awards, including those at festivals in Locarno, Switzerland and Karlovy Vary, Switzerland. His film Bornholm Street was a success in Germany and received the Television Event of the Year award.
Schwochow also directed the successful television series Selling to the Bank or several episodes of Netflix’s Koruna.
