One fifth of the Netherlands wants to overthrow the government?
‘Not quite right’
The figures are correct, says Professor of Social Psychology Tom Postmes at the University of Groningen (RUG). He is one of the authors of the report waiting Özdil quotes. The first statement, about overthrowing the government, is well quoted. But not quite the second, says Postmes.
“Özdil says: 21 percent of people want to do that violence. That’s not quite right. That’s slightly different. He exaggerates it a bit.”
Dissatisfaction
The dissatisfaction can be traced back to several things, including things like housing. “In 2017, people already noticed that it is strange that their children could not find a house in the place where they would like to live.”
“People use it, but don’t often care about their loved ones,” said Postmes.
survival mechanism
We are therefore satisfied with the government, but have been cohesive in the Netherlands for years happy countries in the world. Isn’t that contradictory? In the most recent research by the Social Cultural Planning Office, from October 2021, only 40 percent of the Dutch government gave a pass.
“That is not unique if you compare it with the past 10 years,” says SCP researcher Josje den Ridder. “And if you compare it to other countries we’re actually pretty good.” How is that possible? “That is a kind of survival mechanism. You have to keep up the courage and go for it, because if you don’t, what will you get out of bed for?”, says Den Ridder of the Social and Cultural Planning Office. “meant to have a situation that is more positive in the estimates, they have a positive situation of the country.”
