Welcome to Samuel, a baby born at home in Menton … thanks to the firefighters
Since the 1990s, rare, very rare, Menton babies have been born in Menton. Every year – or almost – a birth escapes this logic. By will of the parents of the child at home, or by chance (1). The beautiful story of this new year responds to the second assertion.
Samuel was born on January 4, at 4:32 am, in the Serres de la Madone sector. Claudia, already the mother of a 3-year-old child, had planned to give birth at the CHPG, in the Principality of Monaco. But Samuel was in too much of a hurry …
“They came when the baby’s shoulders were sticking out”
“The contractions started around 2am. They suddenly intensified… My husband told me ‘let’s go’, but I thought I had enough time before going to the maternity ward “, she says. Seeing that time was running out, however, her husband, Paulo, decided to call the Samu. To the couple’s surprise, firefighters show up first.
“They came when the baby’s shoulders were sticking out”, says Claudia. It all happened so quickly that I couldn’t figure it out myself! “
With more hindsight, the young mother retains the emotion that such an adventure gave her. “It was a wonderful moment, which I shared with my husband in a rush! I did like my grandmother, who had twelve like that!”, she slips. Indicating that her grandma had given birth to each of her children at home – in Portugal.
The firefighters moved by this birth
“It will be a great story to tell my son!”, she assures, anxious to warmly thank the Samu and the firefighters. Moved by this unexpected birth, they were reserved a Facebook post to Samuel on the SDIS 06 page.
“Arrived on site, the VSAV (Emergency and Victim Assistance Vehicle) team of the Menton firefighters had just a few minutes to prepare for the arrival of the newborn. Mom and baby are doing well. A moment full of emotions and always magical for the firefighters “, they write.
In comment, a fire soldier from Menton even lent himself to more personal congratulations: “Well done to you, you were perfect! And so was the dad. Kisses to little Samuel from us.”
