Singapore Airlines opens Milan – Barcelona

The airline company Singapore Airlines will launch in mid-January a “new link” between Milan and Barcelona, having earned the right to fifth freedom which allows it to sell plane tickets between the two European cities already served together from Singapore.
From January 17, 2022, the national airline based at the airport of Singapore-Changi will offer three flights per week between Milan-Malpensa and the airport of Barcelona-El Prat, received in Airbus A350-900 which can accommodate 42 passengers in Business class, 24 in Premium and 187 in Economy. Departures from Singapore are scheduled Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11:55 p.m. to arrive the next day at 5:55 a.m. in Italy, depart at 7.15 a.m. and land at 8:50 a.m. in Catalonia. Return flights will leave Barcelona at 10:10 am to land at 11:50 am in Italy, from where they will depart at 1:10 pm and arrive the next day at 8:05 am.
Between Milan and Barcelona where the one-way ticket is displayed from 79 euros, Singapore Airlines will compete with all Milan airports combined with easyJet and Vueling, plus ITA Airways from March 27 (and Ryanair from Bergamo). All flights to Singapore are offered under the banner ” Vaccinated travel route “(VTL), health measures linked to the Covid-19 pandemic requires.
This regulatory green light granted to the Star Alliance brings the number of dependent fifth freedom routes in Europe to two, after Copenhagen in Rome last year (currently 4 weekly rotations). Its low cost subsidiary Scoot in fact the same between Athens and Berlin.
Singapore Airlines also uses the principle to connect Frankfurt to New York-JFK, Manchester to Houston, Hong Kong to San Francisco, Tokyo and Taipei to Los Angeles, and finally Vancouver to Seattle – six fifth freedom routes involving United States.
