The Central Bohemian Region is preparing to build five new P + R car parks or parking garages with the same mission around Prague: drivers will arrive by car and park to continue their journey by public transport; usually by train. People will be able to use them not only for money but also for free. Free parking is planned for those who will have purchased a PID time coupon for public transport valid for at least a quarter of a year.

This follows from the recent decision of Central Bohemian councilors, who approved projects intended for financing within the Integrated Strategy for the Prague Metropolitan Area. P + R parking with a total capacity of almost 1.5 thousand places was newly included among them, the region’s spokesman David Šíma reminded. “Specifically, it is a parking house in Hostivice, Tuklaty and Zelenci-Mstetice. A new P + R car park should also be created in Zdiby and Úvaly, “he specified. Councilor for Public Transport Petr Borecký (STAN) added that these car parks will be integrated into the PID transport system. “Anyone who has a PID subscription coupon for a period longer than three months can park within the coupon without additional costs,” Borecký reminded of the interconnection of individual and public transport.

Cycling along the river and normally to work

The councilors have also newly included four cycle path projects among the projects intended for financing within the metropolitan area strategy. The spokesman named Šíma mentioned: Zdiby – Klecany, Úholičky – Libčice nad Vltavou, Ostrá – Lysá nad Labem – Čelákovice – as well as the Kostelec nad Labem – Kozly section. “They are selected to help create a comprehensive structure of cycle paths along the Vltava north of Prague and along the Elbe between Kolín and Mělník,” he specified. Councilor Borecký, however, in connection with the support of cycling is not supported that bicycle transport today focused only on sports or recreation. “In the future, it will increasingly be one of the common forms of travel that residents use for daily transfers to desired locations, including, for example, to work,” Borecký noted.

Passengers will know the previous night which way they will go

They do not yet have specific dates for individual agreed events. However, Šíma stated that within five years, the presented plans should become a reality: “Their implementation is expected by 2027.” He also reminded that the estimated costs of all approved projects exceed 1.5 billion crowns.

Hydrogen buses: from words to deeds

The approved projects also include the intention to purchase ten hydrogen buses for public transport. The former words and considerations thus change in specific plans, already confirmed by the resolution. Councilor Borecký’s reason: “Starting in 2025, 20.5 percent of completely zero-emission buses will have to be put into operation in public transport, which is considered only electric buses and hydrogen buses.” He adds that such buses will increase: “From 2026 to by 2030, it will have to be 30 percent of vehicles. “
