The history of the Italian Lottery has often been marked by millionaire oversights: the last dates back to2016 edition, with a 2 million euro ticket never withdrawn, but the primacy of the careless belongs to2008 edition, when the first prize of 5 million euros was not claimed, sold in Rome and then put back into play the following year.
Brief History of the Lottery
The term Lottery it derives from the gothic blauts which means fate, but the idea of the game is much older. It seems that the Romans used to organize lotteries in the holidays: they distributed tickets combined with numbers and which allowed to win valuables. But we have to wait until the fifteenth century to have documented news of lotteries designed to finance religious and humanitarian works. The National Lottery model is consolidated at the beginning of the twentieth century: the event is managed on a national scale and associated with cultural and social events.
But only starting from fifties there was a model more similar to that of the lotteries that we still have today. In 1955, four lotteries a year were authorized by law: the Merano, Agnano, Monza Lottery combined with sporting events and the Italy Lottery combined with an event to be determined from time to time by decree of the Ministry of Finance, together with an important telecast.
From 1970 the association with television was not lost until 2002: since then the Lottery Italy has been combined with the successful TV program of Rai 1, such as Fantastico, Carramba! What Luck, Dancing under the stars, The test of the cook, Your Business and today the usual unknowns.
