Toulouse. Coronation for the best galette des rois
On February 3, the Union des Artisans Boulangers Pâtissiers (UABP) of Haute-Garonne organized the competition for the best galette des rois in the department which crowned two bakers in three different categories.
Before a jury made up of experts from the bakery and pastry sector, several candidates entered the competition for the best galette des rois de Haute-Garonne. The means, a few days before L’Épiphanie, to know which brands to choose for a family feast.
Jean-Michel Feuillet is president of the UABP. For him, this competition is the opportunity to showcase artisanal know-how “The participants put forward quality products that are made with passion”, he says. But he regrets that the health situation has prevented the smooth running of the competition. “Over the past two weeks, there have been contacts among the bakery staff. But some still had a smile on their face, especially during the presentation of prizes and gifts.
A double winner
Indeed, the winners of three categories can savor their victories. Sébastien Courrège, baker in Lalouret-Laffiteau (but selling his products at the Halle de Saint-Gaudens) won the prize for the best frangipane. But also the best sweet brioche. “I did not expect to win in two categories but I am happy to have been able to show my know-how”, he explains enthusiastically. He adds: “The current sales to be boosted by this new status which is a nice gift for the bakery which was created just four years ago.” In addition, Sébastien Baye, from the Sebayou bakery, took first place in the “Limoux” category.
