Thessaloniki: Cemented tree roots in the city center
Cement unknown threw at the roots of four of trees, at its junction with Hagia Sophia Square, in the center Thessaloniki.
The incident was reported today, after complaints neighborhoods, the Deputy Mayor for Environment of the central municipality.
The responsible deputy mayor, Socrates Dimitriadis, pointed out to APE-MPE that the services of the Municipality of Thessaloniki will go to the spot tomorrow morning in order to break the pieces of cement and “release” the trees, while at the same time the perpetrators will be searched.
“Someone or some unconscious, for reasons we do not know, decided to throw cement at the roots of the trees. They covered the soil so that the trees could not grow. We will look for the culprits “, said Mr. Dimitriadis, stating that until today in different parts of the city, about 150 tree-lined trees have been recorded that have been cemented, with the Deputy Mayor for Environment breaking the cement.
“In the past, a road where strangers went and cemented about 30-35 trees was Olympou Street,” the deputy mayor added. He added, “Apart from cement, we have recorded other tragic incidents as a service. “Some threw coarse salt to dry the plane trees in Nea Paralia and others completely uprooted the trees we had planted in Tsimiski.”
