The 130th anniversary of the inauguration of the theater building in Satu Mare is celebrated
Szatmárnémeti – The construction of the Northern Theater in Satu Mare was led by Lajos Szikszay, an architect from Debrecen. The foundation of the building was laid on May 18, 1889, and handed over on January 14, 1892.
The 130th anniversary of the inauguration of the theater building in Satu Mare will be celebrated with a series of events, during which the National Theater in Budapest will also present a performance, he said at the Partium Theater on Thursday.
The György Harag Society and the Mihai Raicu Society of the Northern Theater of Satu Mare celebrate the anniversary with a multi-day event with the support of the local mayor’s office. Between January 14 and 17, there will be theater performances and book presentations in Romanian and Hungarian.
The festivities always take into account the conditions of the former handover according to the settings, so as 130 years ago, the artists of the National Theater in Budapest will enter the stage boards of Satu Mare for the first time. The performance will, as before, begin on January 14 at 7:30 p.m. The National Theater will direct Sarolta Sára Döbrentei’s work directed by Attila Vidnyánszky.
The company of the Vasile Alecsandri National Theater in Jászvásári will also take the stage, presenting a performance adapted and staged by director Radu Afrim based on the short story book The City of Poor Girls by the Romanian writer Radu Tudoran. The György Harag Society and the Brighella Puppet Society of the Northern Theater of Satu Mare, as well as the Mihai Raicu Society will perform.
As part of the series of festive events, two volumes of theater historian Csaba Csirák will be presented: one on the history of Hungarian acting in Satu Mare between 1919 and 1948, and the other on the career of the József Czintos Jászai Prize-winning artist, the György Harag Society.
The foundation of the building was laid on May 18, 1889, and handed over on January 14, 1892. Its designer was Adolf Voyta, a papal architect, and the construction was led by Lajos Szikszay, an architect from Debrecen. The interior decoration was made by Lajos Spannraft and Gyula Hirsch.
