Rugby: several cases of Covid at the MHR, the Toulouse-Montpellier meeting threatened
The Montpellier club announced Thursday in a press release that several members of its workforce and its management were affected by the Covid-19, four days before the shock of the 15th day of Top 14 against Stade Toulouse, Sunday in Toulouse.
“While the professional group of Montpellier Hérault Rugby is preparing for the trip to the Stade Toulousain, some positive cases of Covid-19, as well as several symptomatic cases, have been detected within the workforce”, details the club in its press release.
“The entire professional group will be subjected to a series of PCR tests in the morning”, adds the Hérault club, already confronted with the report of its previous league match in front of Toulon last week, due to a strong contagion in the Var workforce.
Already five cases in December
The shock at the top between Toulouse and Montpellier, respectively 2nd and 3rd, is thus threatened.
Prior to the Leinster European Cup reception, scheduled for December 17 and finally canceled after the Irish withdrawal, Montpellier had deplored five positive cases of Covid-19 in its management, including three players.
For a match to be held, each team must manage to field 23 players “under professional contract or hope (with six first lines)”, including 15 members of the professional workforce. If a club cannot meet these criteria due to too many positive Covid-19 cases, it is entitled to request the report of the upcoming meeting.
