Private pension in full fire: farmhouse was demolished
timeline
In Grossarl (Pongau), a large number of fire fighters have been on fire since the afternoon. An old farmhouse, which is also used as a private pension, was caught in the fire. The extinguishing operation is still ongoing.
In the early afternoon a major fire broke out on a hill in an old farmhouse. Around 2 p.m. the farm was in full fire. Some of the rooms in the farmhouse are also rented out to guests.
When the alarm was raised, the Grossarl fire brigade called alert level 3. The persistent fire and the remote location and infrastructure made the extinguishing work difficult. The emergency services corrected their arrival at alert level 4+.
104 firefighters on duty
In addition to the Grossarl fire brigade, the fire brigades from St. Johann, Hüttschlag, Schwarzach and Bischofshofen also fought against the flames that spread rapidly across the floors of the old house. A little later, the Altenmarkt and Wagrain fire brigades increased to a total of 104 emergency services and 16 fire engines.
Tank shuttle traffic due to water scarcity
Because of water scarcity, the aggravating heights and after exhausting an adjacent moat and the inner drinking water reservoir, the tank shuttle service was fought.
Owner and guests were not in the house
At the time of the fire, the owner and the dying guests in the currently rented rooms were not present. The surrounding buildings could be saved from the flames spreading. There was enormous property damage to the private pension itself. Because of the acute danger of collapse, the farmhouse was demolished in the afternoon using heavy transport vehicles. The end of the extinguishing operation was not yet in sight at around 4 p.m. Details of the cause of the fire are not yet known.
