Modernization of the Salzburg local railway continues
The first major projects in 2022 are the renovation and modernization of Oberndorf train station, including the renovation of the route between Oichtensiedlung and Oberndorf-Laufen, and the double-track exit at Bürmoos train station in the direction of Salzburg. This is the first measure of the double-track expansion between Bürmoos and Ziegelhaiden.
140 million by 2025
“This means we can offer a continuous 15-minute cycle over the next few years,” said Stefan Schnöll, State Minister for Transport. At the same time, the preparatory work for the renovation of the Bürmoos train station will begin. “In parallel to these major projects, stops along the route of the Salzburg local railway are being modernized and bike-and-ride and park-and-ride facilities are being expanded. A total of more than 140 million euros will flow into the improvement of the northern route by 2025, ”informs Provincial Councilor Schnöll.
More comfort for passengers
Oberndorf train station and the line between Oichtensiedlung and Oberndorf-Laufen should be ready by the end of 2022. The investments here amount to around 5.2 million euros. In the Oberndorf train station, passengers will in future be able to access the central platform via the rails. This will be equipped with a roof and waiting berths. The catenary system and the area in front of the station will also be renewed. Among other things, a new building with a reduced waiting area, toilet facilities and a bike-and-ride facility is being built here. The previous bus stop is moving closer to the platform access. This means that passengers no longer have to cross the street when changing trains. The existing park-and-ride facility will be adapted to the new ones. Around 90 parking spaces will be available here in the future.
Modern Oberndorf-Laufen stop
In the section between Oichtensiedlung and Oberndorf-Laufen, among other things, the track including the associated underwater construction and the ducking will be renewed. The stop area of this station, including the platform, waiting bunk and bike-and-ride facility, will also be renovated.
Two-track expansion
As a first measure in the double-track expansion between Bürmoos and Ziegelhaiden, THE old track will be renovated and a double-track exit from Bürmoos towards Salzburg will be built from early summer 2022. For this purpose, a second line track is being built west of the existing structure over a length of around 900 meters. According to the preliminary planning status, the preparatory work is to begin this winter. Around 12.5 million euros are being invested in this.
More security in Bürmoos
At the Bürmoos station, the tracks including the associated substructure and drainage will be renewed by the end of 2023. Protected platforms and weather-protected waiting areas are also being built. Access from the edge to the island platform is via an underground passage. This also serves as a connection to the settlement area in the southern station area.
This is followed by the expansion and renewal of the bike-and-ride and park-and-ride systems, a new technical building, the renewal of the control and safety technology and a new overhead line system. In addition, the Bürmoos train station will be made barrier-free. A total of around 17.6 million euros will be invested here.
