Cyrano in 1h20 then … with behind the scenes the artistic collaboration of the indefatigable William Mesguich, actor and director himself. Music, choreography, singing (including the famous ” Bang bang »In the original version), game, the characters evolve on a kind of falsely chaotic cinema board and make us go from laughter to tears.
Aesthetics replaced in the era of silent cinema, we are more in a very Buster Keaton, Laurel & Hardy, Douglas Fairbanks Cyrano, than in that interpreted by Jacques Weber in the very romantic staging of Jérôme Savary. Cyrano in charge of the gang, sort of Borsalino, breaking away from the world around him in a way. It’s quite successful, fairly fast, and Thierry Surace energetically plays a frenzied Cyrano, who here pays homage to the trestle theater and the spirit of the troupe.
Seven actors for an often clownish Cyrano, who presents us the striking scenes of the play. The nose quote, Roxane’s declaration of love for Christian, the meeting of this same Christian with Cyrano, the scene from the balcony, Christian’s departure to war and his death in combat, the tragic end of Cyrano evoking his panache standing on wooden planks, this is what we will basically remember from the proposed narration.
We can salute the performance of Thierry Surace, but we can regret these cuts in the text which, at the intensity of the piece, and which does not sufficiently take into account the paths taken by Edmond Rostand. We applaud the joy of playing actors around Thierry Surace whose joyful work recalls that of Alexis Michalik whose ” Edmond ”Remains an unprecedented success. A more than pleasant spectacle … successful and very festive which, despite a narrative choice which can sometimes be perplexing, respect to the word the sublime prose of Edmond Rostand.
