L’Envol des Pionniers remains open and extends its exhibition in Saint-Exupéry
This is not one, but two good news that “The Flight of the Pioneers“this Friday, January 6, 2022. The museum, retracing the great history of Aéropostale in Toulouse, has just announced its exceptional opening for the month of January. Usually, this cultural site, located in Montaudran, closes its doors to the public for a month every year.
But this time it will remain open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. This decision is accompanied by another, just as positive for followers of the history of aviation. It concerns the extension of the temporary exhibition “Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, a Little Prince among men”.

An exhibition retracing the history of the famous aviator
By extending this exhibition, the museum wishes to invite visitors to come and discover and meet the famous pioneer of aviation. Because it is at this very place that Antoine de Saint-Exupéry became pilot of the Aéropostale. The exhibition thus trace the stages of life of this pilot flying, “from his little boy’s winged bicycle to his tragic death aboard the legendary Lockheed F-5 Lightning over the Mediterranean”, details a press release.
Through sound and visual installations, from unpublished documents (letters, newspapers, books, documents) and the evocation oflegendary planes, the visitor thus discovers another facet than that of the writer and creator of The Little Prince.
An additional exhibition on the “writer” aspect
In addition, this unprecedented contextualization also allows us to understand how his passion for aviation encouraged his creativity and gave birth of his most famous novels, come Land of men in 1939, or the Little Prince in 1943. A annex to the exhibition Moreover, the historical part on aviation closes, offering visitors the opportunity to discover “The wonderful world of the Little Prince”.
She is more artistic and relates to a dozen sculptures realized by the artist Arnaud Nazare-Aga. Here, each object represents a drawing taken from the poetic and philosophical work of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. “Colorful and sparkling, they invite the visitor to dream and to look at the world through children’s eyes”, underlines the museum.
Flight of the pioneers, the memory of aeronautics
Installed on the track that saw neckline for the first time in 1918 Pierre-Georges Latécoère aboard its Salmson 2A2, the museum thus plunges visitors “into the heart of the human adventure of air mail transport”, thus describes L’Envol des pionniers. Across the anecdotes, from met, from mediations and experiences immersives, young and old alike meet women and men who are pioneers in civil aviation.

On this site, “80 pilots, 250 mechanics, 53 radio technicians, 250 mornings and 900 administrative employees and around twenty cover-mower workers” came together on the Piste des Géants. And to try to make the immersive visit, the museum met in place of characters in period dress. These come every half hour. They appear out of nowhere, around an exhibition or behind a plane, to tell the small and big stories of Aéropostale.
