Coronavirus: Zurich contact tracing has to carry out triage
In view of the rapidly growing number of cases, Zurich Contact Tracing is expanding its availability: The hotline for the public is now in operation around the clock. In the past few days, contact tracing has already been used during the night. 50 employees were assigned to night shifts, but only to do written work that had been left lying around during the day.
Contact with the population should now also be maintained during the night. The contact tracing hotline will be open around the clock from now on, as the authorities told the media on Thursday.
The work has increased significantly in view of the Omikron wall. On Wednesday z. B. 3000 calls were made. The aim is that those affected do not have to wait longer than five to ten minutes on the line. Around 250 employees are currently working at four locations in the follow-up of corona cases.
Contact tracing introduces triage
In view of the increasing number of cases, a new triage will be carried out: No more attempts will be made, all people who tested positive in the canton of Zurich can be reached by phone, according to the media talk. Only those with whom questions need to be clarified would be contacted directly. In particular, this concerns people who, after the positive test result communicated by SMS, did not immediately indicate the close contact persons themselves online.
On Thursday afternoon, the canton of Zurich reported 4,715 new people who tested positive. There were just under 4,200 on Wednesday and around 2,300 on Tuesday. 202 people, 29 of them outside the canton, are listed as “Covid 19 patients” in a Zurich hospital. 57 are in intensive care, 41 need ventilation.
