Câmara de Lisboa predicts ″ broad response ″ for advanced ″ in security ″
The Chamber of Lisbon has prepared “an expanded response” so that the legislative changes of January 30 take place safely in the context of the covid-19 pandemic, including the note on the vote in confinement, informed this Thursday to the local authority.
“A total of 133 polling stations are foreseen for a distribution of 500 voters per section, with a total of 66,500 registered. In 2021, in the presidential advantages, 77 polling stations were affected, concentrated in a single location, in the University City”, he said the Lisbon City Council, in response to the Lusa agency.
According to information from the municipality, for the electoral act of the next legislatives, “an expanded response was provided in relation to the last electoral act [eleições autárquicas de 26 de setembro de 2021], distributed in three areas of the city: the Restelo Secondary School, the Lumiar School complex (ES Lumiar and EB Lindley Cintra) and the University City with five buildings (Rector, Faculties of Arts, Law and Psychology and Cantina Velha) ” .
If the number of subscribers is higher than expected (66,500 subscribers), since the universe of voters will be determined when registration closes, that is, at 23:59 on 20 January, the City Council of Lisbon, under the presidency of Carlos Moedas (PSD), will adapt technical and human resources to ensure that the election takes place “with the normality and efficiency that is required at this time”, considering a pandemic situation.
“The same principle applies to voting in confinement. The universe of voters will be known on January 23 (deadline for registration), and the Lisbon City Council will provide the means of treatment to proceed with the transfer within the universe of employees of the municipality, in particular of the Civil Protection and General Secretariat services, “said the autarchy.
In the last municipal updates, on September 26, 2021, an electoral act that was prepared by the executive president by Fernando Medina (PS), the city of Lisbon made available six brigades to indicate the vote in confinement.
“At this moment, the forecast of teams will be to double the capacity”, in other words, it is foreseen the availability of 12 brigades in the forecast, according to information from the City Council of Lisbon.
The electoral process for the next legislative sessions is coordinated by councilor Diogo Moura (CDS-PP), who has executive powers in support services to the electoral process, and has the participation of various municipal services, in conjunction with the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Administration Internal (SGMAI) and external entities that are collaborating with the municipality “there is no sense in ensuring that the election takes place in safety, in respect for public health rules and with the greatest efficiency”.
On December 5th, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, officially decreed the dissolution of the parliament, following the “lead” of the State Budget for 2022 (OE2022), and the scheduling of the necessary anticipated legislatives for January 30th, as he announced to the country on November 4th.
The OE2022 proposal was rejected by the Assembly of the Republic, on October 27, with votes against PSD, BE, PCP, CDS-PP, PEV, Chega and IL, paving the way for a political crisis and the call for advantage.
Like the new presidential ones of January 24, 2021 and the new municipal ones of September 26, 2021, according to the next necessary legislation, which were brought forward to January 30, they take place in a context of health crisis caused by the new coronavirus.
