5443 new corona cases in Berlin – incidence jumps to 416.9! – BZ Berlin
The corona incidence in Berlin continues to increase rapidly. According to the data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the value on Thursday was 416.9. The previous day the value was 336.3.
After the public holidays with incomplete measurements, the number of deaths was still below 300. The number indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants have demonstrably been newly infected with the coronavirus in the last seven days.
The institute had pointed out that there was less testing and reporting activity to be expected for the holidays. The data thus give “only an incomplete picture of the epidemiological situation”.
According to the RKI, 5,443 new infections were registered. The total number of all detected cases since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 344,635.
There were four new reasons related to Covid-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4029 people have died in Berlin in connection with a corona infection.
The situation in the districts
All districts will report new numbers on Thursday. According to the situation report, most cases were in Neukölln (+742), Pankow (734), Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg (+588), Mitte (574), Tempelhof-Schöneberg (551) and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf (+453) – the fewest in Reinickendorf (+275) and Spandau (+275).
With the seven-day incidence, districts topped the 500 mark again for the first time – namely three: Neukölln (545.0), Pankow (536.1) and Mitte (523.3). Tempelhof-Schöneberg with 487.8 and Lichtenberg with 447.3 are above the 400 threshold.
Only two districts are below the 300 threshold: Steglitz-Zehlendorf (239.1), Marzahn-Hellersdorf (268.5). The remaining five districts are between 300 and 400.
The Senate also continues to warn in its management report: “During the Christmas holidays and at the turn of the year there is less test and reporting activity, and only sporadic data is transmitted to the LAGeSo on the holidays. The case numbers shown are therefore of limited informative value. This must be taken into account when assessing the current pandemic situation. “
The status of the vaccinations
72.0 percent (previous day: 71.9) of Berliners are fully vaccinated. 75.4 percent (previous day: 75.3) have been vaccinated at least once. A total of 6,747,701 vaccinations were received.

The corona traffic light
In order to include a more meaningful indicator in the corona traffic light, the relative change in the seven-day incidence was replaced by the hospitalization incidence. The seven-day incidence and the occupancy rate of the intensive care beds remained unchanged.
► For new infections per 100,000 inhabitants – equivalent to the seven-day incidence for the whole of Berlin – the value according to the management report is 416.9 (previous day: 336.3) – the traffic light is RED.
► The seven-day hospitalization incidence is 3.5 (previous day: 3.3) – the traffic light is GREEN.
This indicator shows how many people per 100,000 population were hospitalized after a corona infection within a week. The indicator is green when the value is below 4. From 4 the traffic light switches to yellow, at 8 to red.
► The utilization of the intensive care beds by corona patients is 18.0 percent (previous day: 18.7 percent) – the traffic light is YELLOW.
The limit value for yellow is 5 percent, at 20 percent this traffic light also jumps to red.
