The new building of the Hungarian Museum of Natural History in Debrecen is being prepared
The government and the city of Debrecen agreed at the end of last year that the government would give the city money to prepare the museum’s building unit. The exact schedule of the project can be decided after the preparation. Science planners complain that the government has left them out of the process so far – it was said in the RTL Newsletter.
They wrote a letter to the government in vain
Most of the museum staff indicated at the time of the move, in 2018, that they did not want to move to Debrecen, and several researchers protested that transportation could not be resolved without severely damaging and destroying some of the more than 200-year-old unique collection.
János Podani, an lecturer at Eötvös Loránd University, told RTL Híradó on Wednesday that he had written a letter to the government with several of his colleagues 14 months ago, expressing their concerns and asking for a consultation. No response has been received since then, and no experts have been involved in the preparation of the project.

they have no problem exhibiting some of the material in Debrecen, as there are excellent museum researchers and museum professionals working in the city who would be able to operate a new institution to a high standard. However, if the entire collection were taken away from the capital, part of it would surely be damaged, and two would see as many people visit the museum as they do now, as Debrecen is much harder to reach from some parts of the country than the capital.
It has already been decided that the new building of the museum can be built on the site of the stadium on Oláh Gábor Street in Debrecen.
