The nine great traditional corps in Cologne Carnival have addressed the public together.
They had already met in December 2021 to discuss the opaque situation regarding the voluntary cancellation of the carnival sessions. Now they are nailing it – at least quickly.
The nine traditional corps in Cologne Carnival (Blauer Funken, Rote Funken, Treuer Husar, Ehrengarde, Nippeser Vigilante, Altstädter, Bürgergarde, Jan von Werth and Prinzengarde) have for the time being canceled their carnival sessions for the session in a joint declaration.
Carnival in Cologne: Large clubs cancel meetings and hope for February
“Due to the nine requirements of the Corona Protection Ordinance and the agreement of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee with the NRW state government, the traditional corps in Cologne Carnival, responsible for the health of their guests, friends and members, have decided to cancel a large part of the carnival meetings indoors”, is what the clubs say. Exceptions are the balls and dance events, which have already been officially canceled.
However, and with that is connected the good news: In contrast to last year, you don’t want to say goodbye to carnival events – corona-compliant of course. “For the later part of the session – depending on the pandemic situation and justifiability – pandemic-compliant campaigns and smaller formats are planned in order to be able to experience our Fastelovend in an alternative form,” it says.
The members then want to be informed individually how these formats will look like. And the clubs send a vaccination appeal afterwards: “The nine traditional corps regret this decision very much, but because of their responsibility they see no other way of avoiding damage to the intangible cultural heritage of the Rhenish Carnival and the city To keep Cologne away “, so initially the reason.
And: “This cancellation is linked to the desire to achieve a higher vaccination rate among the population as quickly as possible, so that we can soon celebrate Carnival again in the form we love it and live our culture.”
