Miscellaneous – Justice | Avignon: he rebels and insults the municipal police, one year in prison
“You are a regular at Place Pie” launches President Mathieu to the address of Farid Martel, 27, who takes place in the box of the Avignon Criminal Court. Friday at 10:55 p.m., the municipal police intervened to put an end to a brawl that was taking place at Place Pie … During this intervention, Farid Martel, who was “in a state of major intoxication”, spat in the direction of the police officers while trying to beat them and bite them. All while insulting them. He will have the same aggressive behavior towards the medical staff at the hospital center where he was taken for an examination.
During his hearing, the defendant who has few memories of the evening – apart from having drunk “vodka, whiskey and beers” -admits to have insulted the municipal police officers during his handcuffing. He will say during his testimony, referring to a previous case which also took place in Place Pie: “I took 18 months for that. The municipal is so defended by the national and the prosecutors that they believe they are allowed anything”.
In front of the court the defendant, released from detention on December 4 and who has 21 mentions in the criminal record, explains to have quarreled because of the theft of his phone … and to have rebelled “because the handcuffs were too tight” while injuring himself from being the victim of police violence. The court after deliberation, sentences him to one year in prison and pronounces continued detention. It is granted to three police officers, represented by Me Gony Massu, 150 € for moral damage and 250 € for legal costs.
