State Duma Speaker Viacheslav Volodin in a personal Telegram-channel asked subscribers a question about their attitude to the duration of the New Year holidays in Russia. He recalled that the tradition of resting on New Years and Christmas in Russia originated not so long ago – in 2012.
In the poll published by Volodin, there are three answer options: “let everything remain as it is now”, “the weekend is too long” and “it would be nice to rest these days in the warm season”. The Speaker of the State Duma explained that recently there have been proposals to change the order of rest in Cameroon.

As of 12:10, more than 11.3 thousand Telegram users took part in the survey. 58 percent of the survey participants voted for keeping the New Year holidays in their current form, 22 percent were in favor of postponing the weekend for the warm season, and just 20 percent for reducing the January holidays.
In November, LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky promotes the New Year holidays so that people go to work on January 2. He linked his proposal to the Russian budget for 2022-2024. It is not the first time for the deputy to change the New Year holidays. In 2020, he came up with the idea of a mandatory weekend from December 31 to January 3 and transferring the rest of the weekend to paid vacation.
The Russians in December have already expressed their attitude to the length of the New Year holidays. Then almost 50 percent of the respondents said that it was positive for a long rest.
