Brose Bamberg is subject to Munich after a hard fight
Brose Bamberg offered FC Bayern München Basketball a tough fight on matchday 15 of the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga, but in the end had to admit defeat 86:95. The home side twice caught up a double-digit deficit, but had luck more on their side in the last few minutes and a Vladimir Lucic on the other, who led his team to success with eight points in crunchtime. And that although Brose was able to win both the rebound (34/39) and the assist ratio (23/18). The best thrower from Bamberg was Akil Mitchell with 16 points.
Oren Amiel: “If you want to win against a team like that, you have to be focused for 40 minutes. When we had the chance to come back into the game or extend the small lead, we lost focus. Munich then had some strong moves that came from the players who always take over for them in such phases. Everyone knew Lucic was going to take the litters – and he did. But, I like to say it again, we’re improving from game to game. If we can now still manage to minimize the ball losses that cost us too much in the last few games, then we are on the right track. I have a good feeling with my team. “
It was a lively game from the start that dominated both offensive lines. Munich was fast with five points ahead, Brose was able to equalize after two minutes: 5: 5. So it went on. The guests gained a small lead, Bamberg countered again and again. Shortly afterwards, Chris Sengfelder had four points worth seeing from Tomáš Kyzlink followed by the first Bamberg three-point and put his team in the lead for the first time (15:14, 6th). The problem: Brose found it difficult to defend the Munich long-range throws. Above all, Andreas Obst was always free and sunk safely. And yet Bamberg’s deficit was always within limits, Brose went into the first quarter break at 24:30.
In the second section, the lines of defense became more vigilant. By the middle of the quarter, both teams only scored eight points: 32:38. Then, however, Obst hit his fourth threesome and created Bamberg’s highest deficit to date (32:41, 17th). Brose, however, at the same time shocked, ensured with an intermittent 6-0 run that the game remained tight (40:43, 19th). However, in the last 60 seconds of the first half, Obst – his fifth threesome – and Lucic with the siren each hit the distance throw, so that from Bamberg’s point of view it was minus seven in the cabin: 42:49.
Brose came out of halftime with a Prewitt three, but then had to accept eight points in a row and for the first time in the game two digits behind (45:57, 22nd). The home side were completely unimpressed by this, however, scoring a 12-0 run for their part and equalizing the game after 26 minutes with a three-pointer from Shannon Scott: 59:59. However, the leadership should not change initially, as Munich always had the right answers to the Bamberg attacks. However: As in the second quarter, Brose was now active and agile in defense, making it extremely difficult for FCBB to get deals. With the siren Obiesie scored for the guests and ensured the 67:71 deficit after 30 minutes.
In the final section, the Munich team were more accurate at the beginning, but after two Šiško three-pointers they only took the lead by six points, as Brose Prewitt first converted the free throws and shortly afterwards the throw from distance (71:77, 33rd). Bamberg fought, Bamberg did not lose a ball and Bamberg came: Mitchell, Ogbe and Scott made for a 7-0 run in the meantime and took the lead again in the middle of the quarter: 78:77. It was an exciting, gripping game that was decided by Vladimir Lucic in the closing stages. Eight points from the Munich captain meant 82:89 with 150 seconds to go. Since Brose was only able to achieve limited success in the last two minutes at the front, but the Munich team kept their free throw rate at 100 percent (28/28) in the final seconds, the 86:95 defeat was sealed in the end. Nevertheless, Brose Bamberg can go to the party on Wednesday at the Hamburg Towers with a lot of self-confidence.
