7921 new coronary heart disease registered last 24 hours – NRK Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

The number of cases of infection is the highest recorded in a day so far in the pandemic. The previous peak of infection was December 14, with 6003 infected.

In the last seven days, an average of 4240 corona infections have been registered per day. The corresponding average seven days ago was 3360, so the trend is rising.

Omikron dominates

On Monday, it became known that the highly contagious omicron variant is now dominant in Norway. In week 52, it accounted for 65.4 per cent of all cases of infection that were screened or sequenced.

– We have expected to increase now, mainly due to omikron. Now we are used to the development in the next few weeks, says assistant health director Espen Nakstad VG.

An increase in infection is expected now in January, not least because fewer people test themselves in the last weeks of December, and you are back in everyday life with more testing, not least in schools.

Fewer in hospitals

On Tuesday, 304 corona patients were hospitalized. There were 21 fewer than the day before.

95 of the patients are in the intensive care unit, and 68 of them receive respiratory treatment. There are 13 fewer in intensive care and six fewer in respirator compared with the day before, according to the Norwegian Directorate of Health’s overview.

A total of 412,472 people have now tested positive for corona in Norway, according to the National Institute of Public Health.

A total of 1307 corona-infected people have died in Norway since March 2020, preliminary figures show.

In the last 24 hours, 7921 corona infections have been registered in Norway.  That is 3219 more than the same day last week and 2688 more than the previous day.

Infection record in Romerike

In several places in the country, new infection records have been set in the last 24 hours. In the twelve municipalities in Romerike, 663 new cases of infection have been detected.

Never before have so many infected people been registered in one day, a review of done by shows Romerikes Blad.

In Lillestrøm, 199 new infections have been registered. In Lørenskog and Ullensaker, 101 and 93 were reported infected in the last 24 hours.
