7,000 signatures for more retirement homes in Zurich – TOP ONLINE
The initiative was submitted before half of the collection period had expired because the initiators do not want to lose any time, as stated in a message.
“More retirement homes in Zurich” will ensure that the number of non-profit retirement homes is increased by 2,000 by 2035. The municipal code should be supplemented with a corresponding addition. The need is undisputed, there are already more than 4,000 people on the waiting list for an apartment for the elderly, according to the message.
A larger supply of age-appropriate apartments also helps young families, who could then move into vacant family apartments.
Implement the housing program quickly
By submitting the signatures, the non-partisan committee intends to encourage the housing delegation of the city council, together with the foundation for retirement homes, to submit a five-point housing program for the elderly as soon as possible.
Among other things, the realization of retirement homes should not only be checked in all municipal housing projects, but also in the issue of building rights. In addition, the Office for Urban Development should systematically demand the construction of affordable retirement homes in planning projects.
The non-partisan initiative committee “More senior citizens’ housing in Zurich” was supported by the Alternative List, the Evangelical People’s Party, the Green Party and the Labor Party. The tenants’ association, the Unia and Avivo union also include among the supporters.
